Intro to Compassionate Communication
Sunil Joseph
Saturday, July 13: 10am-4:30pm (with 12-2pm lunch break)
In this class, we will be introducing a path to compassion based on the principles and practices of Nonviolent Communication (NVC). We will bring non-judgmental awareness to our current communication strategies. We will use NVC tools to shift our attention from right-wrong/reward-punishment thinking to a human needs-centric view. We will introduce practices for cultivating greater felt awareness of our inner world and also learn how to compassionately listen and receive others. We will explore ways to honestly ask for what we want while including the other person’s needs. To quote the Dalai Lama – “If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.”
