Compassionate Communication

Sunil Joseph
Sunday, June 30: 10:30am-12pm
"If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion." – Dalai Lama

According to psychologist Marshall Rosenberg, the way we are taught to communicate and use language cuts us off from our compassionate nature. Marshall created Compassionate Communication, a way of focusing our attention, speaking and listening that helps us connect with ourselves and others compassionately. We will spend the morning exploring the foundations of Compassionate Communication. We will apply the practice to our own hearts to gain an experiential sense of the internal shift that is possible when we put our attention where we are most likely to have our needs met while also holding the other with care. We will discuss the challenges of this path and identify resources that can help us engage with this practice of the heart.

This is part of our Taste of Buddhism program. Join us for a short talk, meditation, and taste treats on Sunday mornings. Each week features a new topic. Open to all levels.

About Sunil Joseph
"I have been a student of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) since 2004.In 2008, I attended BayNVC’s yearlong Leadership Program to both deepen my personal NVC embodiment and also to learn to share NVC with others. Ten years later, I continue to be amazed by the power and simplicity of this approach to meet life in a compassionate way. I am happy when my personal practice benefits others. I consider myself a lifelong NVC learner and explorer." - Sunil Joseph
