Finding Time for Retreat

with Emily Hsu
Sunday, April 21: 10:30am-12pm
Doing meditation retreat is an invaluable way to deepen our spiritual practice and get a taste of our inner potential. But most of us lead busy lives, how do we find time for retreat? In this talk we will cover what a retreat is, why it is important, and how to make time for it. We will also discuss various types of retreat, finding one that is right for you, retreat obstacles, and how to do a retreat in a healthy way.

This is part of our Taste of Buddhism program. Join us for a short talk, meditation, and taste treats on Sunday mornings. Each week features a new topic. Open to all levels.

Emily Hsu graduated from FPMT’s seven-year Masters Program of Sutra and Tantra in 2004. In 2005 she completed a ten-month solitary retreat to integrate the material, and since that time has mainly been teaching and doing some retreat every year. She taught at Ocean of Compassion (Gyalwa Gyatso) Buddhist Center and other Bay Area centers for ten years, with the last four years as resident teacher until leaving in 2016 to do longer retreat. Since that time Emily has been focusing more on retreat while continuing to teach in the US and abroad.

Emily teaches Basic Program, Discovering Buddhism, introductory courses, meditation, and leads retreats, with particular emphasis on emptiness, bodhicitta, Lamrim, and calm abiding (shi-ne or shamatha) meditation.
