Discovering Buddhism: Presenting the Path

with Emily Hsu

Tuesdays, 7:00pm – 9:00pm
April 12 – May 24, 2016
no class on May 10
(6 classes)

Module 3 of the Discovering Buddhism series, “Presenting the Path”, introduces the lam-rim, or the stages of the path to enlightenment. The lam-rim gives an overview of the entire path of the Buddha’s teachings and presents it in a logical, sequential way. We can see how all of the various teachings and methods of the Buddha fit together so that we can practice in a balanced way and according to our capabilities. Also, we come to understand that all the teachings of the Buddha are free of contradiction.

One of the most amazing benefits of the lam-rim is its practicality in daily life. We can deal with difficult situations by recalling the law of cause and effect (karma) and the unsatisfactory nature of cyclic existence (samsara). And the teachings of the great scope show how negative circumstances can be transformed into the path to enlightenment.
