Celebrating the living legacy of buddhist women

For Women of Wisdom: Celebrating the Living Legacy of Buddhist Women, Tse Chen Ling is proud to have partnered with key organizations whose work aligns with the aims of the series. We heartily encourage all those attending events in the series to explore the work of these great organizations and their crucial work to highlight and support the role of women in Buddhism and Buddhist communities.

The Treasury of Lives is the premier online biographical encyclopedia of Tibet, Inner Asia, and the Himalayan region. In development since 2007, it provides accessible and well-researched biographies of notable individuals who are deceased and who were native to the region. Most essays are peer reviewed. Content is enhanced by a dynamic map. To date their site has 1400+ peer-reviewed biographies from 140+ contributors and has mapped 860+ places including monasteries, nunneries, pilgrimage sites, and historically significant locations.

The mission of The Treasury of Lives is to provide access to Tibetan history and religion through the life stories of all people from the region. However, with such a shockingly low number of biographies being of women, The Treasury launched their Women Initiative,  a dedicated effort to better balance the site with the goal of publishing 100 biographies of women over three years. Throughout the Women of Wisdom: Celebrating the Living Legacy of Buddhist Women, Tse Chen Ling will be sharing select biographies from The Treasury of Lives Women Initiative to support this remarkable ongoing project. In addition, The Treasury is always seeking authors for bios as part of their Women Initiative.
