Chokhor Duchen, one of the four great holy days of the Tibetan calendar is this week. Also known as the Festival of Turning the Wheel of Dharma, Chokhor Duchen commemorates the anniversary upon which Shakyamuni Buddha first began teaching the Dharma. For seven weeks after his enlightenment, the Buddha did not teach. After this period, Indra and Brahma offered a dharmachakra and a conch shell and requested Shakyamuni to teach. Accepting, Buddha Shakyamuni turned the Wheel of Dharma for the first time at Sarnath by teaching on the Four Noble Truths.
We need your RSVP for Don Handrick’s classes next week. Check out our calendar for details of when/what he’ll be teaching. Please RSVP to: firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d like to join us for any of his classes. Thanks!
Thank you to all who came to view the Holy Relics. It was a lovely weekend! A huge thank you to all our sponsors whose support made all the difference and a big hug and thank you to all our wonderful volunteers – we could not have done it without you!! Let’s do it again next year!
Geshe Dakpa will lead prayers and give a short talk about the Holy Relics on Sunday July 12 at 10am. We will be giving animal blessings on Saturday July 11 from 1pm-3pm. Smaller animals that can be held (at all times) may enter the center to receive a blessing, larger animals will receive blessings outside in front of the center. Please DO NOT park in the fenced in lot across the street from the center. That lot belongs to the church across from us and they will close and lock the gates and your car will be stuck in there for the night! There is street parking all around the center neighborhood. Hope you can join us this weekend for this most auspicious event!
If you’d like to volunteer to help us out while the Holy Relics are here (July 10-12), come to the volunteers’ meeting on Thursday July 2 from 7pm-8pm. We’ll go over our game plan, have some snacks, and sign up for shifts. Hope you can join us! If you’d still like to volunteer but can’t attend the meeting, send an email to: email@example.com with your availability and we’ll fit you in. Thanks!
Stop by our center on Saturday June 20 and/or Sunday June 21 from 10am-4pm and check out our yard sale! We’ll have a diverse assortment of things for sale, you never know what you’ll find! All sales will benefit our Buy the Building Fund.
Join us on Friday June 5th from 7pm-9pm as we welcome Venerable Losang Gendun who will talk on the 12 Links of Dependent Arising. Venerable Losang Gendun is a Buddhist monk of Dutch descent and has been residing for the past ten years at Nalanda Monastery in France. He was previously employed in the refugee sector and practiced Theravada Buddhism for nearly thirty years. After having studied Buddhist philosophy for eight years at Nalanda, he is now engaged in long term meditative retreats.
Suggested donation $25
Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d like to join us!
Come celebrate our 25th anniversary with us! Sunday June 7th at 2pm. We’ll have food, music and fun. Feel free to bring a dish to share (preferably vegetarian). If you have any photos or stories about the past 25 years, we’d love to see and hear them. We’re putting together a TCL yearbook. You can email them to us or bring them with you to our party.
Join us on Saturday May 30 from 11am – 2pm for the third in a series of three workshops with Karuna Cayton. We’ll provide snacks and goodies to get us through the lunch hour while we learn how to recognize and apply the antidotes to our negative emotions. $25 per person. Please RSVP to email@example.com if you’re planning to attend.
The Holy Relics will be at Tse Chen Ling Center on July 10,11 and 12. We need your help with sponsorship (there are a lot of expenses incurred bringing the Relics to our center!) and as volunteers to help out during the exhibition. If you’re interested in either or both, send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org Thanks!
